Surgical Pathology

The Biopsy

urgical Pathology is the most fundamental and comprehensive of the specialties of Pathology Associates. With surgical pathology as the foundation of the laboratory, our pathologists have provided this specialization throughout their practice history. Pathology Associates' reputation for quality, consistency and professionalism has continued to be emphasized by our work in surgical pathology.

As with all our disciplines, our laboratory offers complete on-site service for all surgical pathology needs. Within this arena, we provide a plethora of services to make the laboratory more convenient, including some of the quickest turnaround times available anywhere.

Pathology Associates has strong experience in surgical pathology within the gynecologic tract. Dedicated to taking a larger view of special gynecologic requirements, the staff work closely with the Histology and Cytology Departments to respond fully to the complexities of specific cases. The staff are prepared to address a wide variety of cases in handling cervical biopsies, endometrial dating problems, gestational disorders, office curettage specimens, conizations and other biopsies at all levels of the female genital tract.

Pathology Associates is fully experienced in performance and evaluation of bone marrow aspirates and biopsies for the evaluation of leukemias, lymphomas, metastatic malignancies, and anemias.

Full expertise is provided in the evaluation of endoscopic specimens, whether gastrointestinal or from other sites (gyn, orthopedic, pulmonary). With special reference to gastrointestinal endoscopy, the pathologists provide a depth of experience in tumors, inflammatory bowel disease, and a wide range of disorders ranging from gastritis with Helicobacter to Whipple's disease.

Since the 1987 introduction of the Biopsy needle for discrete sampling of sonographic lesions of the prostate, Pathology Associates has amassed a wealth of experience with noninvasive and invasive prostate neoplasia. Beginning with the first cases, we have interpreted these specimens with particular emphasis on identifying and classifying early, borderline malignancies, which often constitute clinical dilemmas.

Most histopathologic studies are completed and reported within 24 hours of receiving the sample at the laboratory. We are also prepared to assist in meeting special requests. For all types of specimens, necessary supplies and transportation media are provided at no additional cost. As with every procedure, we are available to support all cases with group consultations. We also work closely in established relationships with a full range of appropriately selected nationally recognized experts and reference laboratories to satisfy any special surgical pathology needs.
